The Enneagram: A Doorway into
the Infinite Circle of Grace
Australian spiritual director Patrick Oliver brings to the
Enneagram a totally fresh and unique approach. His main focus is to help people
discover how grace has been present through their years, and that their true
home and identity has always been within the heart of the Trinity.
Patrick’s starting point is that we are made in the image of God
who is Love itself, and that the call of our life is to become the likeness of
God for the world. He takes the well-known verse of Micah as his basis for
exploring the Enneagram: “Here then what Yahweh asks of you: to live
justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly with your God”. He sees
the Enneagram spaces as images of how we’re born to reflect Love. Our journey
through life, where “we are taken to places we’d rather not go” (John
21) can be mapped on the Enneagram circle as we’ve learned what is entailed in
becoming ever-truer icons of divine love.
This approach to the Enneagram is a profoundly contemplative
journey, and it offers us:
· encouragement. It reminds us
in tangible ways that we can’t fall out of the embrace of God, and that we
share the themes of our life-story with the great figures of the Jewish and
· clarity. It helps us to
recognise the soul-pain that has caused struggle with ourselves, family or
others, and how God’s grace can transform pain and failure into sacred wounds
for the healing of those around us;
· renewal. It allows us to see
how our prayer often has been blocked by the unconscious images of God we’ve
carried. Patrick’s approach brings a sense of energy and hope for the future,
with a confidence that grace will never let fear place a final full stop to our
Patrick has a warm, engaging and prayerful approach to his
teaching, and participants will find that their hearts, minds and souls will be
engaged and enriched during this weekend.
